As published in Webmonkey's JavaScript Library, this function takes the interest and appeal inherent in a GIF89a animation and combines them with the interactivity of JavaScript. Now, animations can respond to and even be controlled by user events without a plug-in such as Shockwave or Flash. All you need for animation is this JavaScript function.

Roll over the graphic at right to see an example. When you roll your mouse over the graphic, it spins itself into my email address and phone number; when you roll your mouse back off, it spins back into its previous state. If you roll your mouse on and then quickly off, the transformation starts and then reverses itself just as fast.
